The Broadway musical Chicago will return to Shanghai later this month, with seven shows scheduled to take place at Poly Grand Theatre from April 23 to 27.
Chicago the musical was written by Bob Fosse based on a true event in the 1920s. Since its premiere in 1975, the musical has staged more than 35,000 shows worldwide as one of the most iconic and longest-running Broadway musicals of all time, known for its sharp satire, sultry jazz numbers and legendary choreography.
In 1996 the revival production of Chicago won six Tony awards, and in 2003 the movie production starring Renee Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones as the murderous heroines won six Oscar awards. The current Broadway production made eight sold-out shows at AIA Grand Theatre in Shanghai in June last year.
