A former rice mill in Sandun town – located in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province – has been radically transformed into a vibrant arts area, blending industrial heritage with contemporary creativity.
On Feb 16, the newly renovated Dongchao Rice Mill Contemporary Art Center hosted a multidisciplinary arts festival. It featured literature, exhibitions, music and a marketplace – drawing art enthusiasts and local residents alike.
Originally built in 1908 as the Zhutaihe Grain and Oil Warehouse, the site later became the Sandun Grain Management Office, holding a significant place in Hangzhou's industrial history.

Now, the revitalized complex consists of seven historic buildings reimagined as a sustainable cultural space.
A striking landmark of the total revamp is the towering grain silos, now serving as the heart of the contemporary art center.
