Zhejiang Gongshang University unveiled China's first future communications academy during the Future Media and Communication Education seminar, held at its Xiasha campus in Hangzhou – capital of East China's Zhejiang province – on Jan 18.

The academy aims to address the rising demand for innovative communications talent in the era of artificial intelligence.

The academy will focus on interdisciplinary collaboration – integrating communications studies with computer science, management and the arts.

It will also specialize in areas like international communications, law-based communications and public welfare communications.

Zhejiang Gongshang University has been a pioneer in AI-driven education – launching the province's first AI+ Talent Development program and introducing innovative frameworks for cultivating AI-era talent.

The initiatives emphasize practical and cutting-edge approaches to teaching – offering students a comprehensive foundation in theory and hands-on experience.

The academy will also foster partnerships across government, industry and academia in order to enhance AI-driven communications research.

It will focus on advanced talent training, cultural content development and on building a resources hub for the region's media landscape.

Leading experts have joined the academy's leadership, including Professor Du Junfei from Nanjing University and Yangtze Taofen Award-winning journalist Chen Dongsheng.

Former Xinhua News Agency Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau Chief Bai Lin was appointed as a professor, further strengthening the academy's expert panel.
