Hangzhou, the capital city of East China's Zhejiang province and Incheon, South Korea, signed an agreement on Jan 9 on paring sister schools between 26 elementary and middle schools from both cities as part of their educational cooperation.
The 13-pair sister schools in the agreement will collaborate on a series of educational projects to further foster global vision and multicultural understanding among students from both cities.
This initiative aims to promote cross-cultural exchanges and contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Hangzhou and Incheon share a special connection as both cities have been hosts to the Asian Games, with Incheon hosting the 17th edition and Hangzhou hosting the 19th.
In recent years, the circle of friends in Zhejiang's education sector has been expanding continuously, with its influence steadily growing.
Currently, the province hosts over 20,000 international students from 173 countries and has established 26 joint higher education institutions in collaboration with foreign universities. It has set up 52 Silk Road Institutes in 34 countries, with four selected as national Luban Workshops, ranking second nationwide.
In 2020, Chinese School Dubai was established in the United Arab Emirates as the first overseas Chinese school. Furthermore, over 3,700 elementary and middle schools in Zhejiang have sister schools overseas, with Hangzhou alone having over 900 pairs and more than 50 with schools in South Korea.
