After over five months of renovation, the Hangzhou Silk Exhibition Hall, also known as the Jiangnan Embroidery Pavilion reopened to the public on Dec 30 – unveiling a refreshed cultural and commercial space.
One of the highlights was the debut of the dragon robe of Emperor Xianfeng, a ceremonial garment from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
Visitors marveled at the robe's intricate embroidery, particularly the seed stitching and floral patterns, which have been impeccably preserved.
In addition to viewing the artifact up close, modern virtual technology allowed attendees to virtually "wear" the robe, breaking the limitations of traditional exhibitions.
The reopening festivities included a themed exhibition called Grand Canal Pattern Culture, showcasing traditional motifs extracted from Hangzhou's historic architecture and craftsmanship.
Designs such as the Gongchen Bridge Water Beast, single-tailed tadpole clouds and treasured floral patterns were presented on silk, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the Grand Canal.
