Construction commenced on the Hangzhou eHub Project, a global logistics hub in Zhejiang province, on Dec 27.
As the third major global air cargo facility at Hangzhou International Airport, the project strengthens Zhejiang's position as a key player in China's air freight industry.
Located in the Free Trade Innovation Zone, the eHub covers 14 hectares and has a total investment of 1 billion yuan ($137 million). The facility will feature an intelligent, efficient, and low-carbon design, with a planned building area of 150,000 square meters. The first warehouse alone will have a 16,000-sq-m ground floor.
International air cargo is a strategic asset for Zhejiang, essential for building a high-level open economy and strengthening supply chains. From January to November, Zhejiang airports achieved a record of 300,000 metric tons in international cargo throughput, with cross-border e-commerce shipments accounting for 140,000 tons—a 73-percent year-on-year increase.
Zhejiang's cross-border e-commerce exports now account for 70 percent of its international air cargo. Hangzhou airport continues to expand its network, adding flights to key hubs like Miami, Vancouver, Liege, and Budapest, establishing a 72-hour global air freight corridor connecting Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
The Hangzhou eHub Project is expected to begin operations in 2027. Complementing this is the second phase of Hangzhou's international cargo terminal, set to open in 2026, and the upcoming Jiaxing Airport, a specialized cargo hub slated for 2025.
