A silk quilt handcrafting competition drew crowds to Gongchen Bridge by Hangzhou's Grand Canal on Nov 14. Forty-eight artisans from across the city competed, with one person producing a silk quilt in just 20 minutes.
Using pristine white "Silk Cotton 1" and golden "Golden Silkworm 1" fibers, competitors layered, stretched, and stitched quilts to perfection, eliciting awe from spectators. The event awarded 16 gold medals for craftsmanship and highlighted silk's enduring cultural and economic significance in Zhejiang, a region with 4,700 years of sericulture history.
In addition to the competition, a full silk industry exhibit celebrated Zhejiang's innovations, from heritage crafts to modern silk products, spotlighting the transformation of the silk industry into a tech-driven powerhouse.
