Hangzhou experienced its 59th high-temperature day of the year on Sept 9, matching the record set in 2022. The city saw temperatures exceed 35 C as the relentless heat continued.
Relief is on the horizon as a tropical disturbance approaching from the east is expected to bring significant rainfall to Hangzhou. Starting this afternoon, the city will experience a marked increase in rain, with heavy showers and thunderstorms forecasted through Sept 11. Areas such as Xiaoshan, Fuyang, and the eastern parts of Lin'an may see localized heavy rainfall and potential flooding.
The rain is expected to bring temperatures below the 35 C mark, offering some respite from the intense heat. However, the subtropical high-pressure system may regain strength later, potentially leading to further high-temperature days. Residents are advised to stay updated with weather forecasts and prepare for variable conditions.
