B-Girl Liu Qingyi wants to show 'Chinese style' at 2024 Olympic Games

Liu Qingyi has been under bigger spotlights than ever in recent years, after becoming the first breaker from China to claim a medal at an international event during the Outbreak 2022 street dance competition, and winning the first-ever women's breaking gold medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, in 2023.

In an interview with CGTN Sports Scene's Shen Xiang, Liu talked about her Olympic preparation work, as well as her goals for the upcoming 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.

"For this period I have so many things to do because my coach, I have a lot of coaches, so they gave me a lot of advice," Liu said.

"So for me, I need to digest them and to transfer them to use by myself. So for now, I just want to put some new things and some old stuff together. Then I can find new feelings because I, I can only do the new things because it's very difficult and, I feel, maybe not stable. So for now, I will just try. If I crash, it's okay. But as for the Olympics, I think that's the final stage," she added.

Breaking will make its debut as an Olympic sport at the Paris Games. Liu, 18, says he wants to show "Chinese style" in her performance.

"I feel I am proud. I just want to show some 'Chinese style' on the Olympic stage because breaking, maybe this is the first time (for it to be at) the Olympic Games," Liu said.

"Maybe this is the last time. So I will cherish this opportunity. Thanks to our country for giving me this opportunity. So showing myself and showing 'Chinese style' on the Olympic stage will be my dream."

The breaking events at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics will take place from August 9-11.
