CGTN| Updated: March 18, 2024 L M S

Esports, or competitive video gaming, is now one of the important means of entertainment and communication for the global youth. Since it made its debut as a medal sport at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, overseas Esports companies are paying more and more attention to China, the largest Esports market in the world. The "2023 China Esports Industry Report" shows the actual revenue of China's Esports industry was more than 26 billion yuan in 2023, or almost 3.7 billion U.S. dollars. China's Esports user base in 2023 was nearly 490 million. International Esports company Electronic Arts is now holding the first "EA Sports FC Pro Mobile challenge" in Shanghai, aiming to promote cultural exchanges and boost the Esports industry.

BRAD RICKARD (REDCAP75) Competitor from Australia "This is my first time (to participate in Esports) in China. It's very exciting and I've had a lot of fun."

LOPER HU China Esports Lead, Electronic Arts "Asia is definitely the spiritual home of Esports. It is an important part of younger fans' football experience and offers new opportunities to build relationships and fandom. The enthusiasm and appreciation of Esports amongst Chinese competitors and fans demand more high-quality tournament programs."
