Hangzhou and the Region of Western Greece held an online video matchmaking session on Feb 21, solidifying the two sides' exchange outcomes.

The regional cooperation is an innovative form of cooperation under the mechanism of the China-EU Regional Policy Dialogue between China's National Development and Reform Commission and the European Commission.

In November 2021, Hangzhou was selected as a case study area for China-EU regional policy cooperation due to its advantages in the digital economy.

Mayor Yao Gaoyuan noted that Hangzhou is not only a city with a rich historical and cultural heritage but also a hub of innovation and ecological civilization. The Western Greece Region, on the other hand, is known for its historical and cultural significance and economic development. He hopes that through the matchmaking, both sides can focus on areas such as digital trade, renewable energy, culture, sports, and tourism to carry out exchanges, pilot projects, training, and investment. Furthermore, he aims to explore cooperation between the Hangzhou Chengxi Sci-tech Innovation Corridor and platforms like the Western Greece Patras Science Park and the Industrial Systems Research Institute in Athens.

Nektarios Farmakis, regional governor of Western Greece, emphasized the region's strategic location, abundant tourism attractions, and developed agricultural processing industry. He expressed hope for deeper cooperation in cultural and tourism exchanges, agricultural food trade, sci-tech innovation, and the development and utilization of new energy between the two regions.
