The Zhijiang branch of the Zhejiang Provincial Museum in Hangzhou has quickly developed into a popular destination for museum lovers since its opening on Aug 29.

Thanks to the long history and rich cultural resources of Zhejiang Province, the new museum branch holds a long list of cultural treasures in its collection, including the "king of jade cong," a ritual object unearthed from the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City dating back some 5,000 years, and "The Remaining Mountain," part of the Chinese painting masterpiece "Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains" by renowned Chinese painter Huang Gongwang (1269-1354).

The new venue takes up a floor area of total 100,000 square meters, while the exhibition area reaches some 32,000 square meters. A wide range of artifacts, from celadon ware and paintings to those showcasing folk customs, are on display at a variety of ongoing exhibitions. Among them, "Ten Thousand Years of Zhejiang - Zhejiang History and Culture Exhibition" particularly is the highlight. The exhibition showcases the history of the region from the Shangshan Culture dating back over 10,000 years to modern times, with over 2,000 objects exhibited.

The museum features a range of cutting-edge technologies, where 3D digital space modeling and other advanced systems are used to create a special digital exhibition hall to offer an immersive experience to visitors. Low reflection glass was applied to reduce light interference for visitors viewing the cultural relics.

The Zhijiang Branch of the Zhejiang Provincial Museum is part of the Zhijiang Cultural Center, the largest cultural complex in the province which also comprises the Zhejiang Library, Zhejiang Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, Zhejiang Literature Museum, and Zhijiang Culture Public Service Center.
