Some 140 students and teachers from Hong Kong's Clementi Secondary School embarked on a study tour for the civic and social development of the Chinese mainland on Nov 28, local media outlets reported.
They visited Zhejiang University Affiliated Middle School in Hangzhou, attending classes alongside local students.
The Hangzhou school opened its Chinese, chemistry, music, geography, English, and history classes to the visiting students. Some subjects were closely linked to Hangzhou's culture, showcasing regional characteristics, such as a chemistry class titled Preservation Secrets of Jiangnan Pastries - A Comprehensive Exploration of Food Deoxidizers, a history class titled Impressions of Hangzhou, an English class titled Culture and Cuisine: A Bite of Hangzhou, and a geography class titled Historical Changes in Hangzhou Transportation.
In the music class, students from both Hangzhou and Hong Kong learned about Peking Opera and how to introduce themselves in an opera tone.
"The class is fascinating! Our school rarely has such courses (on Peking Opera)," said a music teacher from Clementi Secondary School.
Since 2021, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government's education bureau has been organizing study tours to the mainland. This year, the number of routes for these tours has expanded to 26, including new ones like the Zhejiang Cultural Conservation and Innovation Technology study tour.
