Hangzhou International Airport experienced a significant surge in outbound flights on Oct 29 as Asian Para Games athletes and staff departed.

Throughout the day, the airport operated over 100 flights, accommodating over 2,700 individuals, including more than 700 passengers in wheelchairs, to more than 20 countries and regions such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea.

The Hangzhou International Airport, along with Beijing Capital International Airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, and Urumqi Diwopu International Airport, offered around 248 outbound flights, accommodating 3,259 passengers and handling 5,670 pieces of luggage.

In preparation, the Hangzhou International Airport effectively managed ground traffic flow by obtaining accurate arrival times for vehicles at the airport and designed specific routes to prevent congestion.

The amount of luggage carried by departing athletes is typically two to three times more than that of regular passengers. To streamline the luggage check-in process, the airport secured departure information in advance, facilitating the advance transfer of baggage for athletes from Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia to the airport a day ahead.

Within the airport terminals, personalized services were rendered to assist departing Games personnel. The security area was equipped with four temporary private inspection rooms and two prosthetic repair rooms, furnished with seating, walking aids, examination beds, and dust-proof prosthetic bags, catering to the specific needs of special passengers.

"Our aim is to provide departing athletes with a pleasant experience at the airport. We hope to create memorable and positive moments for the athletes at the airport," said Fan Tienan, general manager of Hangzhou International Airport's ground services department.
