Xianghu Lake in Xiaoshan district, Hangzhou is expected to permanently leave up the props and decorations associated with the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou opening and closing ceremonies, including the main torch, as well as continue to hold the performances that were part of the ceremonies, according to an agreement signed on Oct 24.
Wang Min, Party secretary of Xiaoshan district, said that the pairing of the Asian Games and Xianghu Lake is an important step for Xiaoshan in deepening city-industry integration in the post-Asian Games era.
Sha Xiaolan, chief director and executive producer of the Hangzhou Asian Games opening and closing ceremonies, said that the decision to leave the props up at Xianghu Lake allows the spirit of the Asian Games to continue to shine far into the future. It also enables the modern and digital interpretation of historical culture and Xianghu Lake's landscapes.
The performances will be staged at a new park inside the Xianghu Lake National Tourist Resort with a total land area of roughly 30,000 square meters and a total construction area of 8,000 sq m. The park is expected to open to the public next May.
