The first batch of specialized equestrian equipment for the Hangzhou Asian Games arrived at Hangzhou International Airport in Xiaoshan district on Aug 14, local media outlets reported.
The supplies, including horseshoes, nails, and farrier tools, totaling over 2,000 items, came from countries including the Netherlands and are intended for the daily care of the competing horses.
To ensure the efficient clearance of the equestrian equipment, the Hangzhou Airport Customs, in cooperation with the Asian Games Organizing Committee and airlines, relied on a 24/7 customs clearance mechanism.
Equestrian events are unique in that they involve both humans and animals competing together. With horses coming from various countries and a significant number involved, customs developed an "Equestrian Quarantine Online" system to oversee the entire quarantine process for all participating horses.
Upon arrival at the airport and customs quarantine inspection, the horses are transported via a biosecurity channel to the Tonglu Equestrian Center. During the competition, customs officers will be on-site to ensure safety, while after the event, customs will conduct health checks on the horses and issue animal health certificates.
The horses, as special participants in the Asian Games, are arriving from more than 20 countries, and over 100 of them will be joining the competition in Hangzhou this September.
