Hangzhou and its sister city Cape Town in South Africa held an online meeting on Dec 21 to promote cooperation in the fields of culture and art, local media outlets reported.
Cape Town, located in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, has two UNESCO World Heritage sites, Robben Island and Cape Botanical Reserve. Like Hangzhou, Cape Town is also a world-famous cultural tourism city.
"Cape Town not only has its own animation festival and week but is also home to the African continent's largest art museum and a thriving force for innovation in public art and visual art," said an official from Cape Town.
"It is hoped that Cape Town will carry out cultural exchanges and deepen friendly cooperation with Hangzhou through public culture, visual arts, cultural and creative industries, and world cultural heritage," the official added.
Hangzhou and Cape Town established sister city relations in 2005. Since then, the two cities have carried out various forms of exchanges and cooperation in such fields as high-level visits, trade, tourism and education.
