A total of 150,000 pots of viaduct floral displays in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, stretching some 108 kilometers from Qiushi expressway to Fuxing Bridge, have added vibrancy and color to the autumn urban scenery.
The flowers include some 20 species such as flowering almond, cistanche deserticola, distylium buxifolium, and howardi ligustrum.
An official from the urban management bureau said that the flowers were carefully selected and upgraded for maximum appreciation value and disease resilience.
The bureau has also worked with the flower maintenance team on a new digital irrigation system for the flowers, which can not only carry out real-time monitoring of the soil and environment, but also work out customized irrigation plans. A total of 165 such systems have been applied to the flowers.
The team has also added a total of 1,700 new drain pipes for flower boxes, enabling the surplus water for flowering to be directly discharged into manholes instead of messing up expressways.
"The flowers will be in full bloom after a year of considerate maintenance, just in time for the 19th Asian Games, which will be held in Hangzhou from Sept 23 to Oct 8, 2023," said an official from the bureau. "Visitors from home and abroad will surely be flattered by these lovely 'receptionists'."
