Hangzhou in East China's Zhejiang province initiated the "Last Kilometer" campaign on Sept 27 to upgrade the surrounding areas of Asian Games venues, local media outlets reported.
A total of 180 such areas will be upgraded in the following months, spanning from infrastructure and slow-paced transportation network to the living environment, cultural atmosphere, and foreign language sign design.
For example, Binjiang district has laid asphalt for main roads around the Games' main venue, repaired rain and sewage pipes, improved manhole covers, and transformed barrier-free facilities.
Fuyang district focuses on combining local culture with Fuchun landscapes, which are widely known due to the classic painting Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, and has built a leisure site with idyllic waterfront scenery.
In Chun'an county, the areas surrounding Asian Games venues and Village have been fully integrated with local landscapes and improved the overall appearance of the area.
