Zhou Yi's family have been working and living by the Canal for three generations, starting with her grandparents. Her grandfather was an employee of Zhejiang Shipping Company, and her grandmother, a worker of Zhejiang Linen Factory. Her father worked in the police station of the quay after his retirement from the army. Her mother also worked by the Canal. The family moved three times, from Dengyun Bridge to Fuhai Li, then to Wenzhou Road and now to Xinchang Road.  However, they never left the Canal.
