When you grab a cool treat from the convenience store freezer and get whacked with a $10 price tag, you've just been struck by an "ice-cream assassin".

Though the Chinese internet has been heatedly debating the ice-cream assassin in recent days, Youcan, an ice cream company based in Shangcheng district, Hangzhou, is following its decade-long tradition of selling cool treats at reasonable prices.

Youcan, with its ice cream selling at prices between one and 15 yuan ($15 cents to $2.22) and mainly between three and five yuan, has recently been nicknamed the "ice cream guard" by Chinese netizens, the opposite of an ice-cream assassins – which refers to certain types of ice creams in store freezers that take customers by surprise at the cash register with their exorbitant prices.

Founded in 1992, Youcan mainly sells its ice cream in the Yangtze River Delta region and has realized nearly 800 million yuan in annual sales revenue.

"We have preserved the traditional apple and pineapple flavors and created many new flavors, with some of them gaining popularity and becoming online sensations," said Lin Fabin, marketing director of the company.

Currently, Youcan is working at full capacity to ensure a supply of nearly 10 million ice creams per day. It also saw its sales revenue grow 35 percent over last year.
