Taking a taxi might be a piece of cake for most people, but for people with disabilities it might not be so easy, as they must be accompanied by someone and have to store their mobility devices during the ride.

In response, the Hangzhou government introduced a total of 300 accessible taxis this May, of which 150 can be hailed on the street while 34 can be ordered via mobile apps.

The cars are jet black in the British style, and the new taxi can not only accommodate six people per ride, but also has enough space for wheelchairs and baby carriages to turn around inside.

A 1.5-meter-long and 1.2-meter-wide ramp, which forms a slope of about 15 degrees with the ground, has also been installed in the car, enabling disable people to more easily get in or out of the car.

Safety belts can lock wheelchairs and baby carriages in place to prevent them from sliding around during the ride.

The taxi fare is the same as ordinary taxis. The remaining more than 100 accessible taxis will be put into operation within the year.

According to an insider on the taxi's operation team, the 150 accessible taxis have served more than 50,000 passengers since May. In addition, the team has learned of the needs of some patients and will offer them hospital rides consistently.
