Binjiang district's top official Zhang Dengfeng said district authorities will strive to provide better services for skilled workers and attract more technical workers at the opening ceremony of the 5th Binjiang International Talent Festival on May 26.

The event was attended by top scientists from China and foreign countries including Fang Jiancheng, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Israeli scientist Assaf Lahav.

During the ceremony, an institute focusing on the research of the exceedingly low-intensity magnetic field was unveiled. The institute is the only project in Zhejiang province to be included in the nation's major scientific basic infrastructure projects for the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25).

According to local authorities, Binjiang hired 11,475 college graduates in 2021, the most out of all districts in Hangzhou. Among them, 71 hold doctoral degrees while 3,256 have master's degrees. Computing science is the most common major among these graduates.

Binjiang has hired more than 30,000 skilled workers every year for the past three years. Over 70 percent of them major in engineering and science.

Every year, Binjiang spends 1.5 billion yuan ($226 million) to help firms reduce the costs of hiring skilled workers.
