Stricter regulations on the production and delivery of takeout food took effect in East China's Zhejiang province on March 1, local media outlets reported.

According to the new regulations, restaurants must livestream their cooking process on takeout service platforms such as Meituan and Eleme, the two industrial leaders, and all packages must come with single-use seals that meet specific standards.

Hangzhou market regulation authorities have said that the use of such seals would reduce the risk of food contamination during delivery, and the commonly used tapes and staples will no longer be acceptable when the new regulations take effect.

Authorities added that takeout service providers not meeting standards will be given a fixed period of time to change their behavior. They will be fined from 200 yuan ($31.5) to 500 yuan if they continue to break the rules, and their names will be announced publically.

From March to April, surprise inspections will be held across the province to determine whether restaurants have been following the new regulations.

A courier can decline a delivery order if the package is not intact or if the seal is broken. Customers can also refuse to accept food that is not sealed properly.
