Xin'an River Reservoir
The Xin'an River Reservoir was the first large-scale hydropower station independently designed and constructed since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949.
The then Chinese premier Zhou Enlai inspected the reservoir on April 9, 1959 and left an inscription to commemorate the successful project.
The reservoir serves as an important flood control facility in the upper reaches of the Qiantang River. In response to floods in the area, the reservoir opened all nine of its spillways for the first time on the morning of July 8, 2020.
