An intelligent booking system recently put into use at the China National Wetland Museum in Hangzhou has helped it receive more visitors per day, local media outlets reported.

Though offering 2,000 online appointments every day – four periods with up to 500 visitors – the museum will not be filled to capacity as some visitors will leave shortly after arriving and some will fail to show up at all.

The new intelligent booking system, which takes into account real-time data of people leaving, visiting and waiting outside the museum, will try to give every person in the waiting area a chance to visit. It will keep passenger flow at maximum speed by automatically opening new reservation quotas to people waiting in line.

The system will also have access to visitors' information, including their name, ID card number, heath code, whether they have taken nucleic tests or received COVID-19 vaccines, and whether they have traveled to medium or high-risk areas. This system cuts waiting time for visitors to an average of just 58 seconds.

The system can also detect whether there are senior citizens, children, infants or people with disabilities approaching the entrance of the museum, for which it will open temporary reservation quotas.

The system has been designated by the Zhejiang provincial government as a pilot system for the implementation of digital transformation in the culture and tourism industry.
