The eight years of living and working in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province has made Eve Kaskel, a Lithuanian, become an experienced China hand.

"An after-dinner walk a day keeps the doctor away" is one of Kaskel's favorite Chinese mottoes. What's more, Kaskel said that she is a big fan of Chinese culture and has collected many traditional handicrafts at her home.

She particularly favors Hangzhou embroidery and is always eager to try her hands at embroidering.

"It's amazing that a small needle can make such fantastic silk products," she said.

Kaskel's connections with Hangzhou started from a random invitation from her friend, who was then studying at a university in Hangzhou.

She enjoyed the city's scenery, especially around the historic Grand Canal.

Kaskel is currently working as the business development manager of a Japanese jewelry design company in Hangzhou. She likes to communicate with her customers and has also made many Chinese friends.

"That's one of the reasons that I chose to stay in Hangzhou," Kaskel said. "And the city should be known by more people."

She said that several hundred years ago, Marco Polo introduced Hangzhou to the world. She added that she hopes to be a modern Marco Polo that tries to help the world learn about, appreciate, and remember Hangzhou.
