The newly-renovated Museum of the Ruins of Kuahu Bridge, located in Xianghu Lake Scenic Spot, Xiaoshan district, was reopened to the public on Sept 28.

A canoe known as the "first canoe in China" which has lain buried in the land for 8,000 years, is a major highlight of the collections. The renovation saw the addition of a glass case to protect the canoe and allow visitors a closer look.

The number of collections related to the ruins of Kuahu Bridge and the canoe has been doubled to over 300, and a number of exhibitions have been reopened, including one focusing on academic research of the relics as well as measures to protect them, and one focusing on the discovery of China's world-leading maritime civilization.

A collection unearthed at the ruins of Kuahu Bridge displaying the remains of a pig's crooked teeth is another highlight of the museum. It showcases the process of pig domestication in the Yangtze River Delta region from the Paleolithic to the Neolithic period.

Address: 978 Xianghu Rd, Xiaoshan district, Hangzhou

Hours: 9 am to 5 pm, Tuesdays to Sundays.
