Hangzhou's digital industry has seen robust growth over the past few months, as was evidenced by the increase in year-on-year electricity use amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to statistics released by the Hangzhou branch of State Grid Corporation, Hangzhou's digital industry consumed 2.86 billion kilowatt hours of electricity from January to August, up 12 percent year-on-year.
"We were previously concerned about the electricity supply during the scorching summer," said Wang Fenxia, an employee at the administration department of the Hangzhou Huawei Institute, "but thanks to the Hangzhou branch of State Grid Corporation, the work of more than 20,000 employees at Hangzhou Huawei has been carried out smoothly."
After big companies such as Huawei and Interface set up branches in Hangzhou High-Tech Zone (Binjiang district), the zone is becoming a national leader in terms of the strength of its internet economy.
Hangzhou High-Tech Zone (Binjiang district) is one of China's seven national integrated circuit industrial bases and is home to 33 companies listed as key players in national programs, accounting for 72.7 percent of Zhejiang province's total.
Hangzhou is also seeing robust growth in its chip manufacturing sector, as many chip production companies have started operations in the city.
FTWafer located in Qiantang New Area, for example, is now able to produce 350,000 8-inch chips per month and 30,000 12-inch chips per month.
"We thank the Hangzhou branch of State Grid Corporation for ensuring our electricity supply," said Tang Liming, deputy general director of FTWafer, adding that their production capability has been on the rise since May.
