More than 1,000 people gathered at Hubin Pedestrian Street in Shangcheng district, Hangzhou on Aug 8 to participate in a fitness activity aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Aug 8 marked the 12th National Fitness Day – an annual celebration which has been held since 2009 to commemorate the opening of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The activity was organized by the Hangzhou sports bureau, the organizing committee of the 2022 Asian Games, the Shangcheng district government and the Hubin Pedestrian Street management committee.
Accompanied by music, participants lined up in squares and followed the instruction of professional trainers as they performed aerobic exercises.
Over 180 gyms and sports fields in Hangzhou were also opened to the public for free on that day as local residents were encouraged to take part in activities such as cycling, tower racing and tai chi.
Hangzhou will be the host city of the 19th Asian Games in 2022.
