Healthcare and education are two keywords used by Hangzhou in its efforts to help Delingha city, Northwest China's Qinghai province, to move out of poverty, local media reported Aug 5.

The Delingha Hopital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, one of the newest hospitals in the area, was opened in 2012 and has led local treatment in TCM, acupuncture and dermatology.

Hangzhou Third Hospital was behind Delingha hospital's success. Since their cooperative ties were bonded eight years ago, the Hangzhou hospital has lifted its Delingha counterpart from having only eight staff members to becoming a specialized hospital with experienced doctors.

Training and exchanges between the two hospitals were carried out every year, and experts in dermatology, oncology and endocrinology were dispatched to work in Delingha for six months.

"Hangzhou also sent us a remote medical consultation system in 2018, helping us to carry out group consultations and training online," said Zhang Tao, head of the Delingha hospital.

In education, a class from the No 1 Middle School in Delingha, which was taught by teachers from Hangzhou, has also proved its success with excellent grades.

Its first graduates made an eye-catching debut at last year's senior middle school entrance exams, with everyone being admitted to higher learning institutions and scoring an average of 150 points.

Riding this wave of progress, two new "Hangzhou classes" were opened at Delingha No 1 Middle School, as well as one at the Delingha No 2 Middle School.

Demonstration lessons presented by Hangzhou teachers were also widely welcomed by their Delingha counterparts, with every class attracting about 80 percent of local teachers.

"We aim to elevate Delingha's overall educational strength and develop our own faculty team that will never leave this place," said Fan Dan, deputy mayor of Delingha.
