The provincial government of Guizhou on March 3 declared Jianhe county to have completely eliminated poverty.

One of the main reasons for this achievement was the efforts of Chun'an, a county under the administration of Hangzhou in East China's Zhejiang province, which had set up cooperative ties with Jianhe seven years ago to help the impoverished county.

Since then, Chun'an has prioritized the development of several industries in Jianhe, with the mushroom industry being among the latest to flourish.

Jianhe spent 21 million yuan ($3 million) to establish the first mushroom planting base in Nangao village in early 2018. The base consisted of seven greenhouses and 26 mushroom houses that were controlled by smart technologies.

With mushrooms selling well in cities such as Hangzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu and Guangzhou, the base offered stable jobs for over 100 local villagers. Profits were also shared with 4,082 people from 1,520 impoverished families.

Jianhe is currently constructing another planting base in Guankou village that is expected to generate an annual revenue of 20 million yuan.

"Once the base is fully completed, the 100 villages in our town can make an additional 100,000 yuan every year and over 10,000 people will have their annual income increase by 20,000 yuan," said Hu Bingzhang, Party secretary of Liuchuan town, Jianhe.

A company called Jianrong has also been established to aid the development of the local mushroom industry. The company is focused on the production and sales of mushrooms, as well as the development of new species and promotion of technologies.
