Hangzhou Public Library has announced that it will be opened for 12 hours a day from 8:30 to 20:30 starting on Aug 3. Its visitor cap will also be raised from 1,000 to 2,000, and the seats in the study area have been doubled to 1,600 to accommodate the increase in capacity.
The adjustment was in view of the improvement in the pandemic situation and citizens' needs for public reading spaces.
Founded in 1958, Hangzhou Public Library covers an area of 43,860 square meters. The Library is a vice-provincial level public library, a member library of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions and the first management-level member library of the Online Computer Library Center Inc.
Featuring a people-oriented and eco-friendly design, the library is regarded as a model among new public library buildings in China. In 2010, the library was named a "National Key Protection Unit for Ancient Books in China" by the State Council.
