A delegation led by Zhou Jiangyong, Party secretary of Hangzhou -- capital of East China's Zhejiang province -- visited Rongjiang county of Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture in Southwest China's Guizhou province on May 20 -- to inspect Hangzhou's targeted poverty alleviation program in the county.

The Hangzhou delegation first visited the Rongjiang E-commerce Service Center, which gave a briefing on Hangzhou companies that run e-commerce businesses.

Hangzhou companies helped build an e-commerce platform, which generated 7.8 million yuan ($1.1 million) in sales last year. The platform also helped increased the incomes of more than 1,000 local residents from low-income families, officials said.

Zhou then visited the kindergarten at the Sunshine Community, whose construction received 5.8 million yuan in investment from Hangzhou.

The kindergarten provides schooling for children of relocated people as part of the poverty-alleviation program. 

Zhou also visited the team sent by the Hangzhou government to Guizhou to support local poverty-alleviation efforts.

Hangzhou companies set up a special workshop training local women to make handcrafts at a residential community dedicated to accommodating relocated people.

Zhou expressed pleasure at seeing more than 120 local women work at the workshop and encouraged Hangzhou entrepreneurs to improve training for them and expand sales channels of for handicrafts to improve local residents' incomes.

During Zhou's visit, the delegation held a meeting with officials from Guizhou. At the meeting, Hangzhou Bank made a donation to the government of Rongjiang county.
