Hotels in Hangzhou seek digital transformation

ehangzhou.gov.cn| Updated: April 2, 2020 L M S

The hotel industry in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, one of the most heavily affected industries by the novel coronavirus pandemic, is seeking to provide non-contact services for consumers.

A smart system developed by Hangzhou Resthour Sci-tech Co Ltd, which has been used by 250 hotels in the city, enables people to check in by themselves within 30 seconds. An upgraded version of the system was recently released which can recognize people's identities and check their health codes and temperatures, all without the need for hotel workers.

Guests just need to place their identity cards on the self-service machine and subject themselves to a face scan. "Only those with green codes and normal temperatures are allowed to check in," said Ruan Yonghua, co-founder of the tech company.

An official from the Hangzhou Tourism Commission said the upgraded system is expected to help hotels resume operation as soon as possible and will be applied at more than 100 hotels citywide.

Hangzhou, a popular tourist city, has taken a slew of measures to support its tourism industry since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, including a subsidy of 6,000 yuan ($845) for hotels that adopt the smart check-in system.
