Delivery man from Tonglu company attends news conference of State Council
A delivery man from a Tonglu delivery company attended a press conference of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council on March 9. The recovery of the mail industry was discussed at the conference.
The delivery man was Li Jie, an employee of ZTO, a delivery company founded by a native of Tonglu county, Hangzhou, who offered some advice on the subject.
ZTO is one of China's largest delivery companies, delivering more than 12.1 billion packages in 2019.
The company's founder, Lai Meisong, grew ZTO from scratch into a national leader in the delivery industry.
In 2008, Li traveled to Beijing and started his career as a delivery man. Over the past 11 years, he has been devoted to his work, even making friends with some of his clients.
"When I go to someone's house to deliver mail, some residents even offer me food; in winter or summer, they sometimes invite me into their house to rest," Li said.
During the coronavirus outbreak, Li helped out by delivering living necessities to people's houses.
Sometimes Li has to work from 7 am to 8 pm. "It used to be a job, but it became a mission during the outbreak," he said, "every package I deliver may be face masks or living necessities that are urgently needed by residents."
At the press conference, Li said that all he wanted was to safely and quickly deliver packages to customers.
"The longer we take, the more customers suffer," Li said, adding that delivery workers also need to protect themselves when delivering packages.
