Seven counties in southeastern Guizhou province have been raised from poverty with the help of Hangzhou, capital of eastern China's Zhejiang province, according to an announcement made by the Poverty Alleviation and Development Office of Guizhou Province on Feb 25.

In the statement, the office listed 24 counties in Guizhou that had "taken off the hats of poverty" in 2019.

Among the counties, seven were recipients of assistance from Hangzhou as part of the Chinese targeted poverty alleviation program.

Officials from the Hangzhou partner assistance and regional cooperation bureau said that only two counties in southeastern Guizhou province still need to be lifted from poverty.

A representative from the team assigned by Hangzhou authorities to deal with targeted poverty alleviation issues in southeastern Guizhou said that Hangzhou has made significant efforts to increase the incomes of local residents and boost education and medical care in the region.
