A light show in celebration of the upcoming Spring Festival, or the Chinese Lunar New Year, will be staged in Qianjiang New Town in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, during the Spring Festival holiday, according to an announcement made by the management committee of the new town on Jan 21.

Officials said that this year's light show will be even more spectacular than last year. The town has upgraded the illumination system to bring more color and Hangzhou flavor to the light show.

Most of the installation and commissioning work is complete and residents will be able to see the light show during the Chinese New Year period, an official said.

The light show will adopt some of the latest technologies, enabling visitors to get an immersive and interactive experience. The colors of images projected on the ground and the walls can change when visitors touch the images.

The light show will kick off on Jan 24 and run until Jan 30. The five-minute show will be held five times a day from 18:30 to 20:30, with a half an hour between each show.

The Qianjiang New Town light show has developed into a Hangzhou trademark.

Since the G20 Summit 2016, Hangzhou has staged over 10 lights shows marking Hangzhou becoming the host of the Asian Games 2022 and the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up.

This year's Chinese Lunar New Year falls on Jan 25.
