The club covers an area of 3,500 square meters and drew investment of 20 million yuan ($2.91 million).
The club is equipped with comprehensive facilities including a conference hall, a dining hall, discounters and other ancillary facilities. Volunteer groups will also provide services for the retirees.
China's population is rapidly aging. The number of senior citizens aged above 60 in Tonglu is now more than 100,000, accounting for nearly 25 percent of the total population in the county.
The number of new retirees in Tonglu is growing rapidly, with 4,500 new retirees in the past few years alone.
The aging population needs addressing, and the club is designed to do just that.
Retired staff members joining the club are encouraged to provide volunteer services for the elderly. All volunteers will receive service credit cards which will record their service duration. The credits on the card can be used in exchange for products and services.
