Hangzhou Normal University hosts conference on British literature

Hangzhou Normal University hosts the 12th Annual Conference of the British Literature Association of the China National Foreign Language Association from Dec 6 to 8. [Photo provided to ehangzhou.gov.cn]

The 12th Annual Conference of the British Literature Association of the China National Foreign Language Association was held at Hangzhou Normal University from Dec 6 to 8. 

The event was sponsored by the British Literature Association of the China National Foreign Language Association and organized by the School of Foreign Languages of Hangzhou Normal University and the editorial office of the journal Foreign Literature.

More than 200 experts and scholars from over 100 universities and institutes around the world attended the conference. 

A forum was held on Dec 6, bringing together a number of editors of journals on foreign literature to discuss issues related to foreign literature and the philosophy of running a journal. 

That evening, Cheng Wei, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was elected the new president of the British Literature Association at a meeting for council members. 

On the morning of Dec 7, Zhang Zhijun, deputy Party secretary of Hangzhou Normal University, delivered a speech at the conference's opening ceremony, which was chaired by Yin Qiping, professor of the School of Foreign Languages of Hangzhou Normal University.

In his speech, Zhang extended a warm welcome to all attendees before briefing them on the university's history, disciplines, and achievements, specifically the achievements the university's foreign school has made in research on British literature. 

Jiang Hongxin, president of the British Literature Association and Party secretary of Hunan Normal University, recalled the association's progress and achievements. He thanked everyone for their support for the association's development. 

During the event Jiang was elected honorary president of the association for his dedication and commitment to its development.

The conference featured keynote speeches by 16 renowned scholars , who discussed their latest research on British culture and teaching methodologies.

Six workshops were held for scholars to discuss six different British literature-related topics, including modern trends in British literature, Chinese elements in British literature, teaching, translation, and research on British literature in China.

During the closing ceremony, Cheng Wei, the newly appointed president of the British Literature Association, called upon everyone to strengthen academic exchange and push forward with new research on British literature.
