The logo for Liangzhu culture was honored by receiving a Red Dot Design Award, according to a news released by the management committee of the Hangzhou Liangzhu archaeological site Dec 3.

The logo also made it onto the shortlist for the annual German Design Award.

The Liangzhu Culture logo was designed by the management committee of the Liangzhu archaeological site and Dongdao Creative Branding Group.

The logo represents an interpretation of the elements of cultural relics, such as jade, writings and engravings, which were excavated in Liangzhu, the culture of which existed about 5,300 to 4,500 years ago.

According to designers, the objective in the development of this corporate design was to turn the natural, quaint and mysterious language of that time into an aesthetic experience that can be easily recognized by contemporary people.

The Red Dot Design Award is one of the most internationally recognized industrial design awards. It is renowned as the “Oscar Award in the design industry”. Every year, the competition attracts more than 10,000 entries from more than 60 countries.

The winning works will be exhibited at the Red Dot Museum in Essen, Germany. The Liangzhu Culture logo being displayed there will be excellent promotion for the culture.

Liangzhu culture (3400-2250 BC) was a late Neolithic culture discovered 80 years ago by Chinese archaeologists in the town of Liangzhu, Hangzhou. The glorious ancient culture played a vital role in shaping Chinese civilization. More than 500 sites have been excavated to date, spanning East China's Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces, and Shanghai.

The Liangzhu archaeological site was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list July 6 during the 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Promoting Liangzhu culture has been a goal of the management committee of the Liangzhu archaeological site in recent years. The committee is willing to cooperate with all sectors of society to design and produce cultural products related to Liangzhu culture.

So far, more than 400 such cultural products have been produced.
