Hangzhou village pioneers 5G signals coverage
Visitors began swarming to Jiangxiyu village, Xiaoshan district, Hangzhou, to check the high speed of the 5G network when the village recently got access to the new technology.
"The visitors are mostly those who just bought 5G-supporting phones," said Yu Jiande, a senior village official. "They are coming to check how fast 5G signals are, as Jiangxiyu is the only village in the town to have 5G coverage."
It is easy to see the 5G micro base stations installed on street lamps. With those micro base stations, residents within a radius of 100 to 200 meters can get access to 5G signals, Yu said.
It only takes three to four seconds to download an app with 5G service, he added.
In October, the Hangzhou branch of China Telecom built 5G base stations in the village, making it the first village in Hangzhou to receive 5G signals.
The 5G network is currently used to transmit surveillance videos as a way to improve public security in the village.
In the future, Jiangxiyu village plans to build micro base stations and provide remote medical services for its residents.
"The Hangzhou government aims to build the city into China's No 1 digital economy city, and our aim is to develop Jiangxiyu village into China's No 1 digital village," said Yu.
