Experts discuss life sciences at Hangzhou conference

The 3rd World Science and Technology of Life Conference, a gathering of global scientists and researchers involved in life science, was held in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, from Nov 15 to 17.
More than 1,200 medical professionals, including over 20 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), government officials, and businessmen attended the event to discuss a wide range of topics, including future trends in medical cooperation.
The conference focused on exploration, integration, and innovation, and many of Hangzhou's cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements were shared.
In addition, Zhang Boli, a member of the CAE, and Shang Yongfeng, a member of the CAS, were presented with the Shulan Medical Award, known as China's medical Nobel Prize.
The Shulan Award for Outstanding Medical Contributions, which was introduced specifically for this year's event, was conferred to Paul Ulrich Unschuld, director of the Institute for Theory, History, and Ethics of Chinese Life Sciences at Charité-Medical University Berlin, to honor his dedication to the translation of the Compendium of Materia Medica into English.
The Compendium of Materia Medica is renowned as the most complete and comprehensive traditional Chinese medicine book ever written.
The Connected Care Action (CCA) Plan was also launched during the conference with the aim of bringing together medical institutes to share data and resources.
Zheng Jie, president of Shulan Health Group, said that his company would discuss the details of the plan with other institutes and associations.
