Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, is seeing strong results from its environmental renovation efforts in small villages, as 10 local villages recently passed the provincial assessment, local media reported on Aug 2.
Eight towns in Yuhang district and Jiande city of Hangzhou were recognized as provincial models.
A total of 149 towns and villages in Hangzhou have been renovated, marking a successful conclusion to Zhejiang's 2016 three-year plan to improve the environment in small towns and villages.
Over the past three years, Hangzhou has worked tirelessly to improve the environment in small villages while also preserving local history and folk customs. As a result, the booming tourism industry has greatly boosted local homestays and catering businesses and improved living standards for local residents.
Moving forward, Hangzhou will push ahead with key projects in 27 towns, focusing on infrastructure, education, medical care and business services.
