A museum themed on seawall (sea dike) ruins is about to be unveiled in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, local media reported on June 29.

Located in Jianggan district, the museum is the first if its kind in China and will showcase the historical development and cultural implications of seawalls.

The ancient masonry seawall along Hangzhou's Qiantang River can be traced back to the late years of the Eastern Han Dynasty (BC184-220), when it served as an important structure for defending the plains against violent floods, tides and waves.

A logo design competition for the museum has been launched. All designs should clearly show the features of the seawall and Qiantang culture while reflecting the exhibits and development of the museum, with a combination of Chinese and English abbreviations and graphics.

All works must be original. Interested individuals and companies can submit their designs to [email protected] before July 26. Emails should include "Logo Collection with name and contact details" in the subject line.

A number of panel-approved designs will then be displayed online for public vote. Winning bids will be awarded anywhere from 10,000 yuan ($1,453) to 300 yuan.
