Established in March 1956, Hangzhou Yue Opera Theater is a famous professional artistic performing group of Yue opera in China. It has been received by leading Party and State figures including Zhou Enlai, Li Langqing and Xi Jinping. 

The theater has created over one hundred excellent works, and cultivated directors and performers who have won the Splendor Award and the Chinese Drama Plum Performance Award. The theater has also trained quite a number of outstanding youth performers who won the Excellent Performance Award of China Theater Festival, the Magnolia Award, and the National Top 10 Performer Award. 

The works created by Hangzhou Yue Opera Theater have made breakthroughs in receiving major awards at home and abroad. Those include the “Five-One Project” Award, Excellent Work and New Work of the Splendor Award, Excellent Work Award of the China Drama Festival, China Caoyu Drama Award, Most Innovative Award of the Chinese Opera Festival in Paris, Best Performance Award of the Loerrach International Drama Festival, the Honor Award of the Sibiu International Drama Festival, and the Special Honor Award of the India Ibsen Drama Festival. 

The Hangzhou Yue Opera Theater has sent theatrical groups to many countries and regions, including Japan, South Korea, Norway, the United States, France, Germany, India, Romania, Canada, Brazil, Singapore, and Hong Kong, as well as to the Macao and Taiwan, and has participated in various international competitions and cultural performances.
